Pedro Acosta’s Gritty Race at the Brazilian GP: “We Could Only Limit the Damage!”
In a thrilling display of resilience, Pedro Acosta, the Spanish sensation riding for KTM, faced the harsh reality of the Brazilian Grand Prix, finishing a commendable seventh after a weekend fraught with challenges.
Arriving at the race as the reigning leader of the MotoGP World Championship, Acosta was quick to temper expectations, acknowledging the overwhelming dominance of Aprilia and Ducati over his KTM machine.
Despite his optimism, the truth was hard to ignore: Acosta’s performance was hindered as the weekend progressed. On a rain-soaked Friday, he showcased his skills, but when the sun emerged and the track dried on Saturday, he found himself struggling, qualifying in ninth position and replicating that result in the sprint race.
Race day brought a glimmer of hope as Acosta made a spectacular start, climbing to fourth place by the second lap. However, the relentless Jorge Martín soon overtook him, forcing Acosta to fight tooth and nail to stay in the top five. The mid-race battle saw him gradually succumb to Álex Márquez and Ai Ogura, yet he displayed remarkable tenacity, fending off a late challenge from Fermín Aldeguer to secure seventh place.
Reflecting on his performance, Acosta was pragmatic about the outcome, stating, “When I saw the race was shortened, I decided to go with the soft tire. I believe that worked, although we lack a lot of speed. In the end, only Martín managed to pass me in a corner, which is a point we need to work on. Our main issue is top speed. If we can’t overtake or stay in the slipstream, everything becomes more difficult.”
He continued, “I think I used every bit of potential I had available. Today, we could only limit the damage on a tough day, and we need to keep moving in that direction.” With an eye on future challenges, he admitted that the upcoming Austin circuit poses additional difficulties due to its lengthy straightaways.
The Brazilian GP proved to be a stark reminder of the fierce competition in MotoGP, as Acosta prepares to tackle the next round with renewed determination. As the season unfolds, fans and competitors alike will be watching closely to see how the young star rebounds from this tough outing.
