Paush Month Significance: According to the Hindu calendar, the month of Pausha (also known as Pus) is considered very energetic from a spiritual point of view. In the year 2025, this month has started from 5th December, which will end with Paush Purnima on 3rd January 2026. According to the scriptures and religious beliefs, the month of Pausha is very important for spiritual practice, self-purification and freedom from planetary defects. Although worshiping Lord Shiva every day is fruitful, but the importance of performing Rudrabhishek increases manifold in the month of Paush. Let us know why Rudra form of Shiva is worshiped this month and what are its benefits.
Importance of Rudrabhishek in Kharmas
In the month of Paush, Sun God enters Sagittarius, which is called Dhanu Sankranti or Kharmas. During this period, auspicious activities like marriage are prohibited. According to the scriptures, when external worldly activities stop, then the time of internal purification and devotion to God begins. This is the reason why performing Rudrabhishek at this time provides spiritual peace.
freedom from suffering and sins
The Rudra form of Lord Shiva is considered to be the end of suffering. It is believed that the obstacles that come in our life are the result of the sins of our previous births. Rudrabhishek, performed as per rituals in the month of Paush, destroys the unknowing sins of the devotee and frees him from the difficult struggles of life.
Removal of planetary defects
According to astrology, Rudrabhishek is a surefire solution to reduce the inauspicious effects of Kaal Sarp Dosh, Pitra Dosh or Saturn’s Dhaiya/Sade Sati present in the horoscope. When the position of the planets changes during Kharmas, then the negative effects of the planets can be changed into auspicious ones by worshiping Shiva.
Pushya Nakshatra and Akshaya Punya
On the full moon day of Paush month, the Moon is in Pushya Nakshatra. Pushya Nakshatra is considered to be the king of all the constellations and is considered very auspicious for accomplishment of work. Rudrabhishek performed during this period provides Akshaya Punya i.e. never ending results.
