Paush Amavasya Story in Hindi: The month of Paush has been dedicated to Lord Surya Dev. The Amavasya date of Krishna Paksha of this month is called Paush Amavasya. Today is the new moon day of Pausha month. This day is considered very good for bathing and donating. On this day, one gets virtuous results by bathing in the holy river and then donating.
On this day people offer prayers to their ancestors. By doing this the souls of the ancestors attain peace. There is also a tradition of observing fast on this day. It is believed that if the fast is observed on this day with proper rituals then happiness, prosperity and peace will come in the house, but after the fast, the Vrat Katha should also be recited during the puja. Because no fast is complete without reading the story.
Paush Amavasya Vrat Katha
According to the legend, there was a poor Brahmin. His daughter was very beautiful and talented, but there were obstacles in her marriage and the marriage could not take place. One day a sage came to the house of a poor Brahmin. The Brahmin served the sage. Pleased with the service, the monk blessed the Brahmin. Not only this, the sage also told him the solution for his daughter’s marriage. The monk said that a family lives at some distance from here. If your daughter goes and serves him daily, then the obstacles in her marriage will be removed.
Next day, the girl woke up in the morning, cleaned their house and returned to her home. The woman living in that house would be surprised as to who goes away after cleaning every day. After a few days, the woman caught the Brahmin’s daughter. Then he asked the Brahmin’s daughter who she was and why she cleaned his house every morning. Then the girl told the woman everything said by the sage. The woman was pleased with the girl’s service and blessed her for her early marriage.
However, as soon as the woman gave this blessing, her husband died. Then the woman took 108 rounds of the Peepal tree in her courtyard and prayed to Lord Vishnu. The day he did all this was the new moon day of Pausha month. By the grace of God, her husband came back to life and the girl also got married. Since then, it is believed that whoever recites the Paush Amavasya Vrat Katha and circumambulates the Peepal tree, happiness comes to his house.
