Remedies for Paush Amavasya
- On the morning of Paush Amavasya, one should take bath by mixing Ganga water in holy river or water at home. After this, offerings should be made to the ancestors. While offering tarpan to the ancestors, the face should be towards the south. This direction is considered to be of the ancestors. Tarpan should be done by mixing sesame seeds in water. This brings peace to the souls of the ancestors.
- Pind Daan of ancestors should be done on the day of Paush Amavasya. On this day, gratitude is expressed towards the ancestors by offering them Pind Daan. Not only this, on this day one wishes to be freed from debt by offering Pind Daan to the ancestors.
- Sesame seeds should be donated on Paush Amavasya. Donating sesame seeds on this day brings a lot of virtue. Black sesame is used in both tarpan and donation. Donating sesame seeds destroys sins. It also increases good fortune.
- On this day, in the evening, a lamp should be lit at the entrance of the house and at the place dedicated to the ancestors. It is auspicious to light a lamp towards the south. Its light reaches the ancestors and they are happy.
