Pathum Nissanka’s ton helps Sri Lanka pull off record chase to beat Australia, enter Super 8 in T20 World Cup 2026

New Delhi: Opener Pathum Nissanka slammed a magnificent century to help Sri Lanka pull off a record chase at the Pallekele International Stadium in Pallekele to beat Australia by 8 wickets in their third group-stage clash in the T20 World Cup 2026 on Monday. Nissanka slammed an unbeaten 100 off 52 balls to help Sri Lanka chase down a hefty target of 182 runs with two overs to spare.

It was a brilliant knock from the right-hander, who looked set from the word go and took the Australian bowlers to the cleaners enroute to his maiden T20I ton. After Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka stunned Australia in the tournament to pick up their third win in a row and book their spot in the Super Eight stage. Sri Lanka became the first team to qualify from Group B.
