New Delhi: Passenger vehicle wholesales in India grew around 10-11 per cent year-on-year in February 2026, showing that demand in the market remains steady. Carmakers dispatched an estimated 4,20,000 to 4,25,000 units to dealers during the month. In February 2025, the figure stood at 3,81,665 units. This translates into a growth range of 10.04-11.35 per cent.
Most major manufacturers reported higher volumes compared to last year. Maruti Suzuki India, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hyundai Motor India and Toyota Kirloskar Motor all posted year-on-year growth in February. SUVs and CNG models continued to play a key role in driving volumes.
Maruti sees steady SUV growth
Maruti Suzuki India recorded its highest-ever February wholesales at 1,61,000 units, though growth was marginal at 0.13 per cent compared to last year. CNG vehicles made up 44 per cent of its total volumes, underlining rising demand for fuel-efficient options.
The company had six models among the top 10 best-selling cars in February, including the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Maruti Suzuki Swift and Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
According to senior executive officer Partho Banerjee, production is currently running at full capacity. A new production line is expected to start by April, which should help the company increase output from May. Dealer inventory stands at just 12 days, with seven days of that in transit. The company is also managing around 1,90,000 pending bookings, Moneycontrol reported.
In the mid-size SUV segment, Maruti has strengthened its presence with the launch of the Victoris, positioned against models such as the Hyundai Creta, Tata Sierra and Kia Seltos. The company already sells the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara in the same space. Monthly sales in this segment have risen from 10,000 units last year to over 20,000 units this year, increasing its segment share from 12.8 per cent to 19 per cent.
Tata, Mahindra and Hyundai see strong SUV demand
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles reported a 34.23 per cent jump in February volumes at 62,329 units. The growth was mainly driven by the Tata Nexon and the Tata Punch. The Nexon was the highest-selling passenger vehicle in India during the month, while the Punch ranked third.
Mahindra & Mahindra sold 60,018 passenger vehicles in February, up 19.04 per cent year-on-year. The Mahindra Scorpio was among the top 10 selling cars in the country.
Hyundai Motor India posted 52,407 units in February, marking a 9.81 per cent rise and its best-ever February performance. The Hyundai Creta remained its volume driver and featured among the top-selling models.
Meanwhile, Toyota Kirloskar Motor recorded domestic wholesales of 30,737 units, up 16.37 per cent compared to last year.
