Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has stated that he considers his role as Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president his first responsibility, followed by his position as Chief Minister.
Speaking at a media meet, Chandrababu referred to the opposition YSRCP using the term “axe party”. He acknowledged that his remarks might upset some people but clarified that he was speaking as TDP president and not in his capacity as Chief Minister.
Chandrababu explained that he holds two responsibilities, one as party president and the other as Chief Minister. He pointed to the TDP banners displayed at the venue to emphasise that he was expressing his views as a political party leader.
He maintained that his responsibility as TDP president comes first, followed by his role as Chief Minister. He also explained that his position in the government was made possible by the electoral mandate secured by the party.
According to Chandrababu, the TDP first presented its agenda to the public and worked to gain their support. It was only after people voted for the party that he became Chief Minister.
His remarks at the media meet highlighted the distinction he draws between his political responsibilities as TDP president and his constitutional role as Chief Minister.
