Agroup called “Citizens For Democracy” on Wednesday said that it will demonstrate mock Parliament on the theme ‘Democracy vs Anarchy’ in the national capital, coinciding with a similar programme being organised by the INDIA bloc.
The event is scheduled to be held at 10:30 am at the NDMC Convention Centre. According to the organisers, a large number of people will participate in the programme under the banner of Citizens For Democracy.
The group has said that no BJP leader or MP will participate in the event.
Announcing the programme, the group said the event will be organised by “nationalist citizens” against what it described as “regime change and anarchy on the streets”. It has been learnt that the event will hold deliberations on important subjects such as democratic institutions, parliamentary decorum, and political accountability.
The development comes on the same day as the INDIA Alliance’s planned October 30 mock Parliament, setting the stage for competing programmes in the national capital around the issue of democracy and the functioning of the political system.
The Citizens For Democracy group said the event is aimed at voicing its position against what it termed attempts at “regime change” through street protests.
INDIA Bloc To Hold Mock Parliament On October 30
The Opposition INDIA bloc is preparing to hold a public impeachment proceeding against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during a mock parliament session scheduled for 30 October at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence at 10, Rajaji Marg.
The three-hour meeting is expected to be attended by over 200 participants, including opposition MPs, civil society members, and former judges, following reported venue denials at Ashoka Hotel and Ramlila Maidan.
