PANAJI: Panaji Police have apprehended a man from Kerala in connection with a cyber fraud case involving the alleged unauthorised transfer of ₹7,54,638 through UPI transactions.
According to police, Vijay Shah, 48, a resident of Panaji, lodged a complaint on July 6, 2026, stating that on May 29, 2026, an unknown accused allegedly hacked his OPPO A79 5G mobile phone and carried out multiple unauthorised online banking transactions.
The accused allegedly transferred a total amount of ₹7,54,638 through UPI to multiple bank accounts without the complainant’s knowledge, thereby allegedly committing cheating and theft.
In connection with the complaint, Panaji Police Station registered Crime No. 117/2026 under Sections 318(4) and 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and initiated an investigation.
During the investigation, Panaji Police, using technical assistance and information developed through their sources, traced and apprehended the accused, identified as Abdul Haseeb K.P., a native of Pandikkad in Malappuram, Kerala.
The police team involved in the detection was led by Panaji Police Station PI Vijaykumar Chodankar and included PSI Mahadev D. Pednekar, PC-7816 Aditya Mardolkar and PC-9148 Shubham Bhonsle.
The operation was carried out under the overall supervision of SDPO Panaji Shri Sudesh R. Naik and SP North Goa Shri Harishchandra Madkaikar.
