Palestinian Envoy Warns: Racism a Threat to Humanity, Urges Unity

New Delhi: Palestinian Ambassador to India, Abdullah M. Abu Shawesh, has issued a strong warning against rising religious intolerance and hatred, stating that racism poses a direct danger to global stability and peace.

Speaking in New Delhi, the envoy emphasized the critical need for mutual respect and pluralism as fundamental pillars for peaceful human existence.

Ambassador Abu Shawesh highlighted the essential role of religious freedom and acceptance, asserting, “Respect for all religions and acceptance of others are essential foundations of peaceful coexistence, harmony and a world at peace.” He strongly criticized individuals and groups who fuel hatred or demean religious practices, noting that such actions undermine fundamental social structures. “Those who incite hatred against people of any religion or belief, mock their faith or insult their religious traditions are not merely spreading intolerance. They are threatening the very foundations of our shared humanity,” he added, concluding with a stark warning: “Racists are a danger to us all.”

This statement comes amidst growing international concern, with the Palestinian Embassy earlier drawing attention to a United Nations report. The UN report, titled “Truth under the Rubble: Media in the Time of Genocide,” submitted by Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, alleged the systematic killing of Palestinian journalists, destruction of media infrastructure, and information manipulation. The report claims that since October 2023, nearly 300 Palestinian journalists and media workers have been killed, over 400 injured, and more than 100 detained, with around 70 deaths reportedly in retaliation for their professional work. It also documents extensive damage to media offices and communications infrastructure in Gaza, painting a grim picture of challenges faced by journalists in conflict zones.
