New York: Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khwaja Asif became embarrassed in a public event when he got caught in his own contradictory statements. He was asked sharp questions on the baseless and reverse claims made about the social media activity of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. During an interview with British-American journalist Mehdi Hasan, Asif earlier claimed that Imran Khan was running his Twitter account from inside Pakistan’s Adiala Jail. However, when Hasan questioned the previous claims of the Defense Minister, in which he said that Khan’s account was under India’s control, the minister started trying to retreat and stuttering while replying.
Nuclear answer to journalist Mehdi Hasan’s crooked questions
Asif told Hasan, “He is running a Twitter account from the prison cell.” On this, Hasan asked sharp questions to the Defense Minister, saying, “You had said a few days ago that he is running an account with India… You said that India is controlling his Twitter account… You have just made two different allegations. Is this Imran doing or is doing India?”
The Pakistani Defense Minister replied, “Either he is running from the closet or they should at least tell who is running from the prison cell.” When asked more about the basis of claims, the Defense Minister cited “intelligence sources”, but refused to give any strong evidence. Said, “Proof … I can’t publicly disclose evidence.”
British-American journalist Mehdi Hasan removed the claims of Pakistani Defense Minister
Hasan said, “If you cannot publicly disclose the evidence, why do you claim?” Asif replied, “No, because it exists.” When asked about the source of this claim, whether Bharat Khan controls the X account, Asif admitted, “Yes, of course, based on intelligence information. No one is saying it openly.”
Mehdi also questioned the Defense Minister on the behavior of the current Pakistani government with the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023, while it has been criticized worldwide and United Nations experts have described his custody as “illegal”. Asif deferred the question saying, “He has to prove that his hands are clear.”
Imran Khan was detained from his house in Lahore after being sentenced to a three -year prison in a corruption case in August 2023.
Meanwhile, during the interview, Asif also said that China is not upset that Pakistan is increasing “close” with America.
Will China be angry with the proximity of Pakistan with America?
Earlier on Thursday (local time), US President Donald Trump had hosted Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief Aseem Munir at the White House. When asked if Pakistan’s current close relationship with Trump through mineral and crypto deals could endanger the relationship with China, Khwaja Asif said, “We are not worried about it, because our relationship with China is tested on the test of time… Understand that China is not disturbed by whatever we say.”
Defense Minister told- With whom Pakistan’s future
When asked about whom Pakistan sees its “strategic future” – America or China – then the Pak Defense Minister said, “In the past, even today and in future, China has been a very reliable ally of ours, which provides us all kinds of weapons. Our Air Force, submarines and aircraft. Our submarines are from there. It is almost a big part of our weapons. It is much stronger… The main reason for this is the incredible of other sources like America. ”
