Islamabad: A senior Pakistani Army officer and spokesperson winking at a female journalist in response to a question during a press conference has been embroiled in controversy. Pak Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary winked at journalist Absa Komal during a recent press conference. The incident occurred after he answered a question about jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The journalist’s question was about the Pakistan government’s allegations against Imran Khan. He asked whether the army and the government stood by the charges leveled on Imran Khan, such as being a threat to national security, a traitor and a puppet of India, or could any change be expected in the future. In response to this, the senior officer said that it should also be added that Imran Khan is a mental patient. After saying this he smiled and winked at the journalist who asked the question.
This action of his is being criticized a lot on social media and it has become an issue of big debate. Some people wrote on social media that all this is happening openly in front of the cameras. Democracy has ended in Pakistan and the Prime Minister is just a puppet.
Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary alleged in the press conference that Imran Khan is a mentally ill person and is spreading poison against the army. Chaudhary alleged that Khan was using his jail visitors to spread hatred against the army. He also said that Khan was trying to incite enmity towards the army. He further said that no rift will be allowed between the Pakistani army and the people. He also reiterated the army’s allegation that Khan was behind the attacks on military bases, including the headquarters, in Rawalpindi on May 9, 2023.
