Pakistan women’s cricket team won a bronze medal at the Asian Games 2026 after they defeated Bangladesh women by 31 runs. Pakistan had lost to Sri Lanka in the semifinal, while Bangladesh suffered a defeat to India.
This was Pakistan’s third Asian Games medal. The women in green had also won two golds in 2010 and 2014.
Coincidentally, they won all their matches after beating Bangladesh. This was also Pakistan’s first medal this year.
How Pakistan Won Asian Games Bronze?
Bangladesh will be disappointed with the result. They had the game under control after restricting Pakistan to 145/8. Pakistan were in a terrible position at 67-5 in the 12th over before captain Fatima Sana again came to the team’s rescue and scored 45 crucial runs to take the team to a respectable total. Shorna Akhter, Nahida Akhter and Ritu Moni picked two wickets each to keep Pakistan to just about a par score.
Bangladesh batters, however, let the team down, and the team could only score 114-7, letting a great opportunity to win an Asian Games medal slip away. Shorna fought hard with a 46-run cameo, but it was nowhere near enough for Bangladesh.
India-Sri Lanka Battle For gold
Meanwhile, India and Sri Lanka will fight for the gold medal today, September 22. India have been ruthless in the Asian Games, with wins over Japan and Bangladesh. They are the defending champions, recently won the Asia Cup and are by far the best team in the competition. India are yet to win a gold in the Asian Games 2026, and cricket is one event where they have a great chance to add a gold to the medal tally.
But Sri Lanka is a unpredictable team and should not be taken for granted. India still need to play good cricket to win the elusive gold.
