Pakistan violent clashes: There have been clashes between Tehreek-e-Labbaik workers and police in Muridke, Pakistan. Due to this 5 people died. Punjab Police opened fire on the crowd. There was lathi charge and tear gas shells were fired.

Police firing on TLP rally: There has been a clash between the protesting people and the police in Muridke, Punjab province of Pakistan. Several violent clashes took place between TLP (Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan) workers and the police from Sunday night to Monday. Due to this, at least 5 people including a police officer were killed and many were injured.

The police have opened fire on the protesters. Security forces lathicharged and fired tear gas shells on the march of the Islamist group, led by TLP chief Saad Hussain Rizvi, advancing from Lahore. Pakistan Rangers also had an encounter with TLP workers. It is alleged that the Rangers used modern weapons.

TLP marched against the government of Pakistan, in support of Gaza and against Israel. Thousands of protesters have set up camp in Muridke despite a police blockade on the road leading to Islamabad. Punjab Police has said that at least three protesters were killed. A policeman has died in the clash. However, local media, quoting eyewitnesses, have said that the death toll is higher.

TLP not ready to back down

The TLP leadership has not shown any sign of backing down from the confrontation. This unrest started after several days of increasing tension in Pakistan’s Punjab province. There were violent clashes in Lahore last week. Police had tried to stop TLP’s pro-Palestinian rally from moving towards the capital. During this, there was indiscriminate firing, due to which 11 people were killed and more than 50 were injured.
