Pakistan became the most dangerous country – why did terror increase?
In 2025, Pakistan became the country most affected by terrorism. It left Burkina Faso behind. Pakistan’s figures are shocking:
- 1,139 deaths
- 1,045 terrorist incidents
- Worst situation in last 10+ years
This is not a sudden change, but the result of a long-standing problem. The main reasons for this have been said to be the return of Taliban to Afghanistan in 2021, benefit to terrorist organizations from open borders and strengthening of TTP (Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan). Because there was a 24% increase in TTP attacks in 2025 alone. During this period there were 595 attacks and 637 deaths. Apart from this, violence also increased in Balochistan, where incidents like Jafar Express train hijacking by Balochistan Liberation Army came to light. India-Pakistan border tensions led to air strikes in May 2025, increasing regional instability.
Due to all these reasons, Pakistan ranks first in GTI and this indicates that the situation may become more serious in the future.
