New Delhi: Pakistan should attack Indian cities if US ever attacks it, former Pakistani diplomat to India Abdul Basit said during a TV show.
Taking part in a discussion on a hypothetical conflict, Basit said if the United States were to attack Pakistan “we must not think twice and attack Mumbai and New Delhi”.
“We will see what happens later. If we do not have a choice and the US attacks us… this is an impossibility… but the world must know that if anyone casts an evil eye on Pakistan… it will not have any option but to attack India,” he said during a discussion on Pakistani channel ABN news.

US report mentions Pakistan a threat
Basit was responding to a US report which mentioned that Pakistan’s long-range ballistic missile programme could develop into a threat to the US homeland.
US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, presenting the 2026 Annual Threat Assessment to the House Intelligence Committee said, “Pakistan is among countries researching and developing an array of novel advanced or traditional missile delivery systems with nuclear and conventional payloads that put our homeland within range.”
Basit further said that while Gabbard mentioned about Pakistani missiles, she didn’t talked about Indian missiles. “India and the US are strategic partners, like we are with China. You take whatever benefit you can from President Trump, but don’t think you have become a strategic partner. Don’t assume that not mentioning Agni 5 and Agni 6 was a mistake. They don’t see India the way they see Pakistan,” he said.
Basit served as Pak’s top diplomat in India
Basit is no stranger to India. He served as Pakistan’s top diplomat in New Delhi from 2014 to 2017.
Pakistan is, meanwhile, engaged in an “open war” with Afghanistan. It has recently attacked a hospital for drug addicts in Kabul — killing over 400 people.
