Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Nawaz under investigation after testing positive for recreational drug use

New Delhi: Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Nawaz is facing an investigation from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after testing positive for recreational drug use. Nawaz was part of the Pakistan squad in the T20 World Cup 2026, where he underwent dope tests as part of the standard procedure during international tournaments.

As per ESPNCricinfo, Nawaz’s sample that returned positive was collected during the T20 World Cup 2026 earlier this year. The all-rounder featured in Pakistan’s all seven matches in the tournament. The Salman Ali Agha-led side crashed out of the Super Eight stage of the tournament after a poor show, including a crushing defeat against India in the group stage.

Nawaz picked up seven wickets and scored 15 runs in the tournament. The Pakistan all-rounder is currently taking part in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026, however, his positive dope test has cast doubt over his immediate future. As per ESPNCricinfo, the PCB has begun its investigation into the matter after being informed by the ICC of the player’s positive dope test.

“The International Cricket Council (ICC) has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about this matter, and PCB has begun the due process. The results of this process will be communicated to the ICC today,” a PCB spokesperson was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
