Pakistan bowled out for 92, suffer first series defeat to West Indies in 34 years

New Delhi: A sensational bowling performance from Jayden Seales helped West Indies beat Pakistan by 202 runs in the third ODI at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. The hosts ended a 34-year drought to register their first series win against Pakistan since 1991.

Captain Shai Hope led the team from the front and scored an unbeaten 120 runs, while Jayden Seales also picked up six wickets to help West Indies clinch the ODI series by 2-1. The Men in Maroon missed out on qualifying for the last ODI World Cup in India, but this series will give them plenty of confidence.

Hope, Greaves power West Indies to commanding 294

Pakistan got off to a great start after opting to bowl first as Naseem Shah removed Brandon King cheaply. Evin Lewis played a few good shots and looked in positive touch, but was dismissed by Abrar Ahmed for 37.

Spinner Abrar and Saim Ayub came in the middle overs and completely choked the run-scoring with some tight bowling. Shai Hope found some boundaries and kept the scoreboard ticking. But Keacy Carty (17) and Sherfane Rutherford (15) were removed by Abrar and Ayub, respectively, as they tried to break the shackles.

But it was Roston Chase’s batting that changed the match in favour of the hosts. He scored 36 runs off 29 balls with the help of three boundaries and two maximums. His innings allowed skipper Hope to break free in the last 10 overs.

He attacked Pakistan bowlers and completed his 18th ODI hundred. Justin Greaves also smacked an unbeaten 43 runs off 24 balls, and forged an unbeaten 110-run partnership with Hope. Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed picked up two wickets each, while Ayub and Nawaz also took one wicket each.

Jayden Seales runs riot as Pakistan Crumble for 92

Chasing the 295-run target, the visitors got off to a poor start as Jayden Seales’ masterclass bowling washed away the top-order with a four-fer in his opening spell. Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, and Mohammed Rizwan got out on a duck while Babar Azam scored just 9 runs.

The middle-order batters attempted to show some resilience but failed to capitalise on their start. Seales came back to finish the game and picked up 6/18 in just 7.2 overs. Gudakesh Motie also took two wickets, and Roston Chase also picked up one wicket as Pakistan bowled out for 92 runs.
