New day and new drama. Pakistan is not ready to change the story of cricket. The controversy over the sudden removal of Mohammad Rizwan from the captaincy of the ODI team had not yet subsided when the Pakistan Cricket Board surprised everyone by taking a sensational decision. Board chief Mohsin Naqvi has now appointed Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood to the post of International Cricket Consultant in PCB. That means, along with captaining the Pakistani team in Test cricket, Shan Masood will also work as an advisor to the PCB in matters related to international cricket and will take major decisions.
PCB gave reward as soon as the team lost
According to reports from Pakistani media, on Friday, October 24, controversial PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi announced the appointment of Shan Masood as consultant (International Cricket) during a dinner event at the house of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Apart from Naqvi, the entire Pakistani team including Shan Masood and the South African cricket team were also present in this dinner event. This dinner and the announcement of making Masood an advisor came a day after the Pakistani team’s crushing defeat. In the second test, South Africa defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets.
Now, after such a defeat at home, action is taken against the captain or action is taken, but Pakistani cricket is no different. Mohsin Naqvi, who has already become infamous due to his antics and strange decisions from Asia Cup to domestic cricket, surprised him by taking another controversial decision. Normally, such responsibilities go to a professional or a retired player, but PCB surprised everyone by appointing its own captain.
Will give advice on major matters of Pakistan cricket
Shan Masood has got this responsibility at a time when the post of Director in Pakistan Cricket Board is vacant and recently PCB had issued advertisement for this role. The appointment of Shan Masood is being considered under this, where he will not take decisions on his own in matters directly related to international cricket, but will be the number-1 advisor of the board in all major matters.
The PCB has not yet revealed what the responsibilities of Shan Masood, who has played 44 Test matches for Pakistan, will be, but he can be seen giving advice only in those matters which come under the Director of Cricket. In this, Shan Masood can prove to be an advisor to PCB on important issues like planning the international schedule of the Pakistani team, logistics for the team’s tours, deciding the central contracts of the players.
