Director Gajendra Ahire, known for his distinctive storytelling, returns with his latest project, Paithani, streaming on ZEE5. This new show explores the rich history of the iconic Paithani saree.
After the success of Signature, which is centered around family and parents, Ahire continues to choose themes that are unique and thought-provoking.
However, in today’s rapidly changing cinema landscape, Ahire acknowledges a challenge that many filmmakers face: audiences are becoming less receptive to smaller, meaningful films. He exclusively told Filmibeat, “I think we are all trying to understand why audiences are not coming to the theatres, even though the films are great. Everyone is working hard, and filmmakers are experimenting with new and unique concepts. I believe this is just a phase. We’ve experienced a time when people were actively enjoying cinema and were very receptive to it. We lived through that golden era. Phases come and go. Paithani itself is a moving tale of Godavari, a widowed mother who dedicates her life to weaving beautiful Paithani sarees while sacrificing her own dreams. Her daughter, Kaveri, hopes to fulfill her mother’s unspoken wish by purchasing the last saree Godavari ever created symbolizing love, gratitude, and the bond they share.
Paithani is now available for streaming on ZEE5. Viewers, who have a paid subscription for the leading OTT platform, can stream all the episodes in full HD.
