The Padma Awards 2026 event was held earlier this evening (May 25) at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred 131 Padma award winners at the special event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and others. Bengali superstar has also been conferred with a prestigious Padma Shri honour at the mega event in the national capital of India. After winning the honour, Prosenjit shared a self-made video where he expressed his emotions after being honoured with the fourth highest civilian award of India.
Prosenjit Chatterjee On His First Padma Award
Prosenjit Chatterjee received i for his immense contribution to Indian cinema, particularly Bengali films. He went to receive the honour in a traditional golden kurta set. The actor was named along with distinguished individuals from the fields of art, education, sports, and various other disciplines.
For the unversed, Prosenjit has worked in over 200 films over the four decades of his career. He has predominantly worked in Bengali cinema. The actor has also acted in a few Hindi films.

In his statement, Prosenjit Chatterjee said that he is truly thankful and grateful to the Indian government for conferring him with the Padma Shri. He has been working in the industry for the past 40 years, and people around him, including producers, directors and co-actors, have contributed a lot to his journey.
“This is not just my achievement, but it belongs to everyone else who made me, Prosenjit Chatterjee. Receiving the award from the president is, in itself, a great achievement,” the actor added.
Celebs Who Were Honoured With Padma Awards 2026
Apart from Prosenjit Chatterjee, celebrities like Mammootty, Dharmendra (Posthumous), Alka Yagnik, Arvind Vaidya and others were honoured with Padma Awards on Monday. Dharmendra’s legacy was celebrated at the event as his wife-actress Hema Malini accepted the Padma Vibhushan honour from the President of India, Droupadi Murmu on behalf of late actor Dharmendra.
For the unversed, Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, in Mumbai. Coming back to Prosenjit Chatterjee, the actor has actively been working in Hindi and Bengali films.
He was last seen in Vjaynagar’er Hirey, which was directed by Chandrasish Ray. The film featured Aryann Bhowmik in the lead role. Apart from winning hearts in Bengali cinema, Prosenjit has acted in films like Shanghai, Traffic, Maalik and so on. He has also been a part of web series like Jubilee and Khakee: The Bengal Chapter.
