Oval Test: India bowled out for 224 after shocking collapse against England

New Delhi: India suffered a terrible batting collapse on the second day of the fifth and final Test against England bundling out for a first innings score of 224. Resuming on an overnight score of 204/6, the Shubman Gill-led side added just 20 runs in the morning session of Day 2 suffering a shocking batting collapse.

In just a space of 6 runs, the visitors lost 4 wickets as  Gus Atkinson rattled the batting attack claiming three of the remaining four wickets. Jos Tongue started the damage by getting rid of half-centurion Karun Nair for 57 while Tongue was effective enough to send Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna back to the pavilion.

Atkinson shines with fifer

While Sundar had scored 26 runs, Siraj and Krishna were dismissed for a duck while Akash Deep remained unbeaten on a nought. From 83/2 to 224 all out, this was one of the biggest crashes suffered by the Indian cricket team. 224 is the lowest first innings total scored in the current series. Atkinson (5/33) registered the second best bowling by a pacer against India at the Oval behind 7/80 taken by Gubby Allen in 1936.

Apart from Atkinson, Tongue claimed three wickets while Chris Woakes, who has been ruled out of the match also claimed a wicket. Skipper Gill threw his wicket after getting run out cheaply.
