Oval Test, Day 2: Dashing Jaiswal stands solid for India after Siraj, Prasidh rupture England

New Delhi: Dashing Yashasvi Jaiswal rose back to form standing tall for India on an eventful second day of the fifth and final Test match of the series against England on Friday. After India bowled out England for 247 runs, allowing them a slender 23-run lead over their first innings score of 224, India lost KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan just at the stroke of stumps but Jaiswal kept the visitors hopes alive.

When stumps were called at the Oval after stand-in English skipper Ollie Pope refused umpire’s option of carrying on with spin due to bad light, India were placed at 75/2, with a second innings lead of 52 runs over the English side. Jaiswal was solidly placed on 51 runs off 49 balls while nightwatchman Akash Deep, who came in after Sudharsan’s wicket had scored 4 runs off 2 balls.

Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue accounted for the two dismissals of Sudharsan and Rahul respectively.
