New Delhi: A catch controversy rocked the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), questioning the umpiring. Knight Riders batter Finn Allen smacked a big hit with the aim of clearing the boundary but LSG’s Digvesh Rathi caught to near the rope.
At the first instance, the catch seemed to be a clear one as the batter was given out by the umpire but as the replays were shown, doubts raise regarding the cleanliness of the catch by the Super Giants player. In the 15th match of the cash-rich league at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, LSG won the toss and invited KKR to bat first.
Meanwhile, Allen was caught at the deep third region for 9 when Rathi grabbed a high catch very close to the boundary rope. As per the TV replay, LSG fielder’s foot was close to the rope and for a moment it even appeared that his foot touched the rope. However despite this, the batter was given out without a detailed check about the catch.

When replays were showed multiple times, they suggested that Rathi’s left foot might have been touching the rope slightly and hence Allen’s dismissal was not a straightforward one. This decision left the fans on social media divided with some saying that the catch was legitimate while the others not in favour of the decision.
