India’s official entry for Oscars 2026, Homebound, has failed to get a nomination in the Best International Feature Film category. The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were announced on January 22 by actors Daniel Brooks and Lewis Pullman. This prestigious award ceremony is going to be held on March 15.

This year’s nominees in the Best International Feature Film category include The Secret Agent (Brazil), It Was Just an Accident (France), Sentimental Value (Norway), Sirat (Spain), and The Voice of Hind Rajba (Tunisia).

Homebound, produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Adar Poonawala under the banner of Dharma Productions, is based on a 2020 New York Times article written by journalist Basharat Peer. The film tells the story of two friends named Shoaib and Chandan, who come from extreme poverty and backward backgrounds and try to move ahead in a society that is deeply affected by systematic discrimination.

The film stars Vishal Jethwa, Ishaan Khattar, Jhanvi Kapoor and others. It has been directed by Neeraj Ghaywan.

Set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 lockdown, the story is about two people who lose their livelihood during the nationwide lockdown and find themselves stranded, struggling to survive and trying to get back home. Throughout its journey, the film tackles themes of social inequality, economic hardship and courage in times of crisis.
