Ordering food from Swiggy will become a little expensive, as the company has increased its platform fees. Swiggy has increased the platform fees for its food delivery business from Rs 12 to Rs 15 in select areas. These fees were increased in places where more orders come. The company had earlier decided to increase Rs 14, but now it has increased it by one rupee. The platform fee is a fixed fee, which customers of Swigy and Zomato pay on their food delivery orders. The GST (GST) is included in the Rs 15 platform fee.
Jomato on Tuesday increased the platform fee on the food delivery order from Rs 10 to Rs 12. This has been increased due to the expectation of more orders coming in the festive season. This fee does not include GST. Swiggi first introduced a platform fee of Rs 2 in April 2023 and gradually increased it to Rs 12, so that the cost of business could be improved. Jomato also adopted a similar method, although its previous fee hike took place in October 2024.
Why decided to increase
This fee is much lower than an order of Rs 500600 for flower delivery platforms, but this helps companies to increase profits. Swiggy has no longer made any statement about this increase. This increase occurred at a time when Swiggy’s April Year quarter reduction doubled from year to year to Rs 1,197 crore. The reason for this is its huge investment in Quick Commerce Bidne Instamart. Although Swigy’s operating income increased by 54% to Rs 4,961 crore in this quarter, the company’s total cash outflow was Rs 1,053 crore, including operating, investment and finance activities.
