Supreme Court on Voter List Review: Before the Bihar elections, there was a hearing in the Supreme Court today regarding the voter list review. Petitions were filed by 10 people including RJD MP Manoj Jha, ADR and Mahua Moitra.

The petition demanded the cancellation of the order of the Election Commission. In the case, former Attorney General KK Venugopal and Senior Advocate Rakesh Dwivedi have appeared in the case. While Kapil Sibal, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Gopal Shankar Narayan argued on behalf of the petitioners.

What did advocate Ashwini Upadhyay say?

Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay said that our demand is that this verification campaign should continue. We have said that voting is not a fundamental right, but independent and fair elections are a fundamental right. If a single Rohingya or a single intruder is named in the voter list, it is necessary to remove it. As long as the intruders in India are voting, it cannot be considered an independent and fair election. The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Election Commission. The hearing will be held on 28 July. On the other hand, there has been a demand to include Aadhaar, voter list and ration cards. The Supreme Court has said that if the Election Commission wants, he can accept these three documents. This is the jurisdiction of the Election Commission. There is no intervention in this. The Election Commission has assured that it will complete this process before Bihar elections.
