Actor Vijay’s wife Sangeeta has filed for divorce after 27 years. He has accused Vijay of having an affair with an actress and of cruelty. Sangeeta said that she is getting only pain, insult and suffering from this relationship.
Chennai: There has been chaos in the 27 year old marriage of Tamil films’ Thalapathy and TVK Party Chief Vijay. His wife Sangeeta Swarnalingam has filed a divorce petition in the district court. Sangeeta has made very serious allegations against her husband like adultery and cruelty.
Allegation of affair with a famous actress
According to a report in ‘India Today’, 48 year old Sangeeta has given this application under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. He has alleged that 51 year old Vijay is having an affair with a well-known actress. Sangeeta says that she came to know about this relationship in 2021. Vijay then promised to end the relationship, but continued it without any regrets.
Public insult and roaming around
Sangeeta has stated in her application that Vijay has completely distanced her from his social and professional life. He travels abroad with the actress and also attends public events. Sangeeta alleges that the actress posts pictures of these trips on social media, but Vijay never raised any objection to this. “This has been a constant source of humiliation for me and my children,” he said.

Sangeeta has mentioned some more serious things in the divorce petition. He said that Vijay has taken away the facilities provided earlier and has also imposed restrictions on money. In 2024, Vijay’s behavior and controversies on social media have caused him a lot of mental stress. She said, “Our marriage is now only on paper. I am getting only pain, humiliation and suffering from this relationship.”
Sangeeta has sought divorce on the grounds of Section 27(1)(a) (extra-marital affair) and 27(1)(d) (cruelty) of the Special Marriage Act. Let us tell you that Sangeeta is the daughter of a Tamil businessman and was once a big fan of Vijay. Both of them got married on August 25, 1999 as per Hindu and Christian customs. They have two children – a son Jason Sanjay and a daughter Divya Sasha.
