Online Gaming Bill: 2 lakh jobs will end from the industry! Know who gave this big warning

Online gaming promotion and regulatory bill

The government has introduced online gaming promotion and regulatory bill 2025 (Online Gaming Bill 2025). This bill proposes to ban all types of money related online games, including skill -based games.

The cabinet has also cited serious financial crisis related to online money gaming and many suicides related to the introduction of this bill. But the gaming industry has expressed great concern about this proposal of the government.

More than 2 lakh jobs can be over

According to an ET report, online gaming companies and the leading organization of the industry, All India Gaming Federation (Aigf), E-Gaming Federation (EGF) and Federation of India Fantasy Sports (FIFs) have written a joint letter to Home Minister Amit Shah. In this, he has clearly stated that if this bill is passed, then more than 2 lakh jobs will end and more than 400 gaming companies will be closed. And at the same time, the image of India’s digital innovation will weaken.

Why is the industry so worried?

This industry is growing rapidly in India and the livelihood of millions is related to this. The valuation of online gaming in India is more than Rs 2 lakh crore, which earns a revenue of Rs 31,000 crore every year. Also, this sector pays more than Rs 20,000 crore to the government. The rate of increase in the industry is about 20% annually and it is expected that by 2028 it will double. The number of online game players in India was 36 crores in 2020, which has now increased to more than 50 crores in 2024.

The industry has requested the government to bring a strict but progressive regulation instead of banning them. This will give India’s digital gaming industry a chance to grow and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of Digital India will also be strengthened. He has also requested Home Minister Amit Shah for an immediate meeting on this issue so that he can keep his point directly and make such a law that will also protect the users and gives the industry a chance to grow.
