ONE Bantamweight MMA World Champion Fabricio Andrade has lived up to his moniker “Wonder Boy.” The Brazilian hasn’t lost a single MMA fight under the ONE banner, but his only defeat came against Jonathan Haggerty in a kickboxing title bout.
The 27-year-old clashed with the Brit in the main event of ONE Fight Night 16 in November 2023. Andrade donned the big gloves in pursuit of two-sport glory. But he came up short against Haggerty.
That losing scar is still fresh in his mind, and he wants to even the score against “The General.” Recently speaking to onefc.com, he talked about the rematch, his opponent, and what went wrong in the first encounter.
“I definitely want to do a rematch with Jonathan Haggerty. He’s a very good athlete, a very well-known guy in the sport, and I think in our first fight, I didn’t show up to fight,” Andrade said.
“I think I didn’t show my skills. It was a bad day for me, not only because of the defeat, but also because of the fight itself, because I wasn’t able to show what I wanted to show.”
The Fortaleza native has been sensational in the all-encompassing sport. He has defeated three of the top five contenders, including John Lineker, Kwon Won Il, and Jeremy Pacatiw. Now, he is ready to face two top-ranked contenders he hasn’t encountered yet.
The man who began his MMA journey in 2014 stated he wants to face Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu and Stephen Loman next. Both fighters have only one loss each in their ONE careers so far. The Mongolian Baatarkhuu has six victories to his name, while Loman has three.
“Even though I’ve already beaten Lineker and Kwon Won, there are still two guys in the rankings that I haven’t fought yet: Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu and Stephen Loman,” Andrade said.
“It’s hard to say that I’m close to cleaning the division, and I also believe that other tough athletes will emerge.”
