Zoho software engineer: The story of a young man from Tamil Nadu has gone viral on LinkedIn. This young man, who once worked as a security guard in Zoho company, is today working as a software engineer in the same company. The name of the young man is Abdul Aalim. Aalim’s story is proof that those who don’t give up get opportunities.
Abdul Aalim had left the house with 1 thousand rupees
In his LinkedIn post, Aalim told how he left home in 2013 with Rs 1,000. Spent Rs 800 on train ticket. Without a job or a home, he spent about two months on the streets before getting a job as a security guard at Zoho’s office.
Shibu Alexis changed Abdul Aalim’s life
While working as a security guard, Aalim used to work 12-hour shifts. During this time his life took a turn. Shibu Alexis, a senior employee at Zoho, saw him and started a conversation. “He asked my name and said, ‘Alim, I can see something in your eyes,’” Aalim said. Aalim had studied till 10th class. He had basic knowledge of HTML. The eagerness to learn was clearly visible in him.
Alexis decided to give him guidance. For eight months, Aalim worked day shifts and took programming classes in the evening. His dedication paid off. She built a simple app that visualized user input, which Alexis shared with a Zoho manager.
Got developer post despite not having college degree
Impressed by this, the manager called Aalim for an interview. Aalim did not have a college degree. To this he was told, “At Zoho you don’t need a college degree. What matters here is you and your skills.” Aalim passed the interview and joined as a developer.

Eight years later, he is still working at Zoho as a software development engineer. Expressing gratitude, Aleem wrote, “I would like to thank Shibu Alexis for his knowledge and learnings and Joho for giving me the opportunity to prove myself.”
