When is Onam 2025?
According to the almanac, every year on the Trayodashi date of Shukla Paksha of Onam Bhadrapada month is celebrated. This time this date is on September 5, Friday, so this festival will be celebrated on this day. Wherever there are Malayali Association in the country, this festival is celebrated with great pomp.

Why do Onam celebrate?
According to the prevailing story, in ancient times, South India had the right to Bali, the king of the demons. King Bali wanted to take control of heaven by performing a great yajna. When the gods came to know about this, they went to Vamana, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vamana sought three steps from King Bali in donations. King Bali accepted to donate them. As soon as the sacrifice resolved to donate, Lord Vamana enlarged his body and measured the sky in one step and the sky in another. When the third leg was not found, King Bali said, “You put the third leg on my head.” As soon as Lord Vamana placed a third foot on King Bali, he went to Sutal Lok. Seeing the charity of King Bali, Lord Vamana made him the king there. It is believed that King Bali comes to the earth once a year. Onam is celebrated every year in the joy of his arrival.
How do Onam celebrate?
Onam is observed for 10 days. In these 10 days, people buy new clothes, jewelry etc. and decorate their house. Women make pickles and papads etc. The boat race is also organized during Onam, which is called Vallakali. On the eighth day, Lord Vamana and King Bali are worshiped by making clay idols. The last day of Onam is called Thiruvonam. Special food is made on this day, which includes many types of chutis, sweets, vegetables etc.
