According to the Panchang, Kartik Purnima Tithi will start at 10:36 PM on November 4 and end at 6:48 PM on November 5. On the basis of Udaya Tithi, November 5 will be considered as Kartik Purnima Tithi. Kartik Purnima fast will be observed on this day and Dev Diwali will also be celebrated. This year the timing of evening puja, aarti and lamp donation on Dev Diwali is from 5:15 pm to 7:50 pm. According to astrology, this year on Dev Diwali, auspicious yogas like Bhadrasana Yoga and Shivvas Yoga are being formed.

Lighting a lamp on the day of Dev Diwali is considered to have special significance. On this auspicious occasion, devotees take a bath in the Ganga early in the morning and then with devotion, light five, seven, eleven or as many lamps as per their capacity along the banks of the ghats. It is believed that donating a lamp on this day brings immense virtue and brings happiness, prosperity and peace in life.

Why do gods celebrate Diwali, know the mythological story
Kartik Purnima is also known as Tripurari Purnima. According to mythology, “Once upon a time, all the gods, goddesses, sages and humans were troubled by the demon Tripurasura. On the day of Kartik Purnima, Lord Shiva killed Tripurasura and protected the gods. Hence it is called Tripurari Purnima.” It is believed that in this happiness the Gods came to Kashi on the night of Kartik Purnima and celebrated Diwali. Therefore it is called Diwali of Gods or Dev Diwali. Also, lakhs of lamps are lit on the ghats of Kashi.
