On National Sports Day, Sadhguru calls for stronger sporting culture in Bharat

New Delhi: On National Sports Day 2025, spiritual leader Sadhguru called for establishing a stronger sporting culture in the country, linking fitness to nation-building.

“This is a Civilization that paid utmost attention to physical and mental fitness. Though Sport has always been a part of this culture, establishing a culture of sport in Bharat is a responsibility that every individual can embrace joyfully,” Sadhguru said in a post on X.

He highlighted the Isha Gramotsavam, which he described as the largest rural sporting festival in the country, saying it provides opportunities for villages to participate in sports. “This is the opportunity that #IshaGramotsavam offers to our villages where the majority of our population lives,” he said.

Sadhguru also referred to the Fit India Movement, launched six years ago, describing it as an effort to build a healthier society. “The #FitIndiaMovement launched six years ago is also an effort towards creating a healthy & vibrant Nation, the most essential ingredient in becoming a great Nation,” he said.

National Sports Day is observed every year on August 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
