New Delhi: Remakes have dominated Hindi cinema, and Bollywood has adapted several preexisted films from different places; be it Hollywood, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, or other regional languages. There are movies that you might have seen, but had no idea were remakes of older classics.

Various remakes made by the Hindi film industry are hits in today’s time, they have been masterpieces and have been appreciated worldwide.  Several films have been screened at international film festivals and some have even performed better than the original.

Old Love, New Lens: Remakes that were better than the originals

1. Don (2006)

About the movie: This movie is a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s movie Don, which was released in 1978. Both films showed the character of Don as a powerful and ruthless mafia boss. The 2006 film of Shah Rukh Khan was directed by Farah Akhtar and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. The classic Don has also been remade in other languages such as Tamil and Telugu.

2. Umrao Jaan (2006)

About the movie: This is the remake of the 1981 film, the original of which starred Rekha in the lead role. Aishwarya Rai starred in the lead role of the remake which was made in 2006. Her beauty won the hearts of millions. The remake was directed, produced, and written by J.P. Dutta. The film also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Sunil Shetty, Divya Dutta, Himani Shivpuri, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.

3. Agneepath (2012)

About the movie: The original movie was made in 1990 by  Yash Johar but was not a success, but the 2012 movie was one. It was produced by Karan Johar. The film starred Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, among others. It earned Rs 190 crore at the box office and was a massive hit at that time.

4. Sahib Biwi aur Ghulam (2011)

About the movie: It is a remake of the 1962 film, which is based on a Bengali novel and starred Guru Dutt, Waheeda Rehman, and others. The remake came with the name of Saheb Bibi and Gangster. Tigmanshu Dhulia’s remake showers power, politics, love, lust, and betrayal.

5. Bhool Bhulaiya (2007)

About the movie: The psychological horror comedy, which is directed by Priyadarshan, is a remake of the Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu. This iconic original movie came out in 1993. The story of the movie is about a tragedy that took place in the 19th century at Madhu’s mansion. The film starred Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Shiney Ahuja, and Ameesha Patel, alongside Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Manoj Joshi, Asrani, and Vikram Gokhale.
