Not checking BIS Hallmark and HUID
If you are exchanging gold and getting a new hallmarked piece of jewelery in return, don’t be satisfied with just seeing ‘916’. The responsibility of hallmarking in India rests with BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards). Some things are necessary in real Hallmark. These include the BIS logo, carat or fineness (e.g. 916, 22K), 6 digit HUID number, jeweler’s ID mark and year of hallmarking. HUID can be checked on BIS Care app. Never buy jewelery without checking HUID.
