Regret at not having caught actor-filmmaker Althaf Salim’s latest directorial Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira in theatres during Onam, and disbelief that it was bundled out within days after an overwhelmingly negative online campaign – that’s more or less the feel one gets on social media after the film dropped on OTT. During the theatrical run of the film led by Fahadh Faasil and Kalyani Priyadarshan, the reviews were so bad that it could muster only a measly Rs 1.5 cr net.

Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira, feel netizens, is not everyone’s cup of tea, but is not as bad as it was made out to be a month ago. The overwhelming crowd favourite is veteran actor Lal, who literally steals the show, not only with his performance, but his T-shirts too. The number of comments wondering where to order the tees he sports is insane. With leading man Fahadh, though, audiences remain divided, but by and large, the feel is that he was the weakest link and a total misfit for the role.
“Alright, so #OdumKuthiraChaadumKuthira has its hits and misses but I definitely found the film entertaining enough overall. The whole caricaturish portrayal of characters (especially Fahadh) was obviously intentional and it worked for the most part,” wrote a netizen. Another added, “We seriously did this movie dirty. This was so much fun.” “Truly regret not watching this in theatres. Ended up liking it more than the movie I chose to watch instead,” said a third. There were many other comments that the film did not deserve to be a box office washout within only days.

Written by Althaf, the film features music by Justin George, with the song Duppattawaali gathering much praise.
