Odisha youth burnt alive over witchcraft suspicion, 25 arrested

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a crowd dragged a man out of his house in Odisha‘s Cuttack district, lynched him over the allegation of practising black magic and then set his body on fire to erase evidence. The police arrested as many as 25 accused in the case

The tragic incident took place on May 10, while  the arrests were made a day after when the victim’s father registered a formal complaint with the police.

The victim, identified as Tikima Behera, was living with his brother and sister-in-law at the Talamunduli village in Cuttack district.  Victims father, Sweta Behere,, said as per PTI, “After his wife left him seven years ago, my son started living with his brother and sister-in-law.”

As per the Cuttack (Rural) SP Vinit Agrawal, “so far, we have arrested 25 men of the village who allegedly killed the man on suspicion of performing black magic. Three teams have been formed to probe the incident.” “One of the accused arrested confessed to the crime during interrogation,” further stated by the police. The police have also recovered the half-burnt body and bones of the deceased. According to SP Agrawal.
