Odisha: Speeding trailer hits Bolero in Jharsuguda, 5 police personnel killed; 3 critical

New Delhi: A speeding trailer rammed a police vehicle, a Bolero in Odisha’s Jharsuguda on early Sunday morning. The accident killed 5 police personnel and left 3 others seriously injured. The accident happened near the Jharsuguda Sadar Police Station, said officials.

Trailer coming from opposite direction hit police vehicle

According to a report in India Today, the speeding trailer hit the police vehicle head-on. The policemen were on official duty when the accident happened. The impact of the collision left the Bolero car completely mangled and 5 police personnel died on the spot.

Personnel from the Sadar Police Station reached the spot of the accident and moved their colleagues to the hospital. Those who died in the accident have been identified as APR personnel Kashiram Bhoi and Debadatta Sa, Drill Sub-Inspector Niranjan Kujur, APR Havildar Lingaraj Dhurua, and Home Guard Bhaktabandhu Mirdha. The deaths have plunged not only their families, but also the entire police fraternity into deep sorrow.

The injured police personnel have been admitted to hospital. Of the 3 injured, 2 are members of the Armed Police Reserve (APR) and one is a sergeant. They are currently admitted to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors described their condition as “critical”. They are currently under close observations, said the doctors.

Trailer driver arrested

The police have arrested the trailer driver. An investigation has also been launched into the matter. The police are trying to determine the exact reason for the crash.

Soon after the accident senior officials from the Odisha Police reached the spot. They oversaw the rescue operations and ensured that the injured personnel got proper medical treatment.

The incident has left a pall of gloom across the districts. Tributes have started pouring in for the deceased police personnel.
