Prasidh Krishna has become a regular member of India’s Test and ODI teams and he looks all but set to be part of the squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Krishna has taken the onus in the absence of seniors and has become India’s go-to pacer. Speaking to JioStar, Krishna opened up on his preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup and termed this format as the “toughest”. The ICC event will be played in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe from October 4 to 21 November.
“The ODI format is very interesting, and I think it’s the toughest format because you have to adapt between different phases of the game. For a bowler who has to operate in all three phases, the powerplay has made it even more challenging. But that’s the challenge. The harder things get, the fewer people there are who can do it well. That’s what I’m looking forward to,” Krishna told JioStar.
“One-day cricket is exciting, and a World Cup in South Africa will be particularly exciting for fast bowlers. High-scoring games have become the norm, with 300 and 350 now becoming regular scores. But for us as bowlers, the challenge is to restrict the opposition as much as possible and come up with different tactics to get the job done,” he added.
Krishna will be one of India’s lead pacers in the upcoming New Zealand tour. India are scheduled to play 5 T20Is, two Tests and five ODIs against the Kiwis. Krishna said that the fast bowlers will be tested in New Zealand, but he is looking forward to the challenge.
“New Zealand is going to be a completely different challenge. It’s a beautiful place to play, but as a bowler, it tests you in every way, your skill, your endurance and your ability to keep coming back session after session. For now, we’re focusing on getting the basics right. Once we get there, we’ll understand the conditions and adapt accordingly. The idea is to equip ourselves with all kinds of skills so that, when we get there, we can pick and choose what we want to do. As fast bowlers, we’re definitely going to be tested. You’re expected to do a lot more in New Zealand than in the subcontinent, and that’s the challenge I’m looking forward to,” he added.
Prasidh Krishna’s numbers in international cricket
Prasidh Krishna made his India debut in the home ODI series against England in 2021. He made his Test and T20I debuts in 2023. He has 32 wickets in nine Tests he has played thus far.
The senior pacer has 50 wickets in 28 ODIs and 9 wickets in eight T20Is. He will be in action in the ODI series against West Indies, starting September 27. The series will be televised live on the Star Sports Network. The fans enjoy the live streaming on the JioHotstar app.
