A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Haryana’s Panipat, where a 22-year-old woman allegedly took her own life after being let down by her husband, who had urged her to quit her job and come meet him.
The woman, Manisha, had recently travelled from Bengaluru where she was employed as a nurse after her husband repeatedly insisted she leave her job and join him in Panipat. But after her arrival, he failed to show up and eventually switched off his phone, pushing her into a state of despair.
Manisha had checked into a hotel along GT Road in Panipat and was reportedly waiting for her husband’s arrival. When he didn’t return, she allegedly consumed a poisonous substance she had ordered online. Her maternal uncle, who received a distressing call, rushed to the hotel and found her in a critical condition. She was taken to a private hospital but sadly died during treatment on Monday, July 7.
Following the incident, local police from Chandnibagh station launched an investigation and sent her body for post-mortem at the civil hospital. Authorities are now examining all circumstances surrounding her death, including digital evidence and hotel records.
According to her uncle Rajbir, a resident of Vihar Colony on Kutani Road, Manisha had been living with their family for four years after moving from Chandrapur, Maharashtra, where her mother still resides. She completed her schooling in Panipat and eventually fell in love with a local boy. The two entered into a love marriage after two years and later moved to Ghaziabad. However, their relationship became rocky at one point, both were booked in a kidnapping case and briefly jailed. After securing bail, they stayed in contact, and Manisha later found a job in Bengaluru.
Despite their troubled history, her husband recently convinced her to quit and meet him in Panipat. Rajbir revealed that they met once after her arrival, and the husband told Manisha he would return shortly after picking up clothes from his home but he never came back, and his phone remained unreachable.
Police are now looking into whether the situation amounts to abetment to suicide. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage, hotel statements, and the online order through which the poison was procured.
