There was a sensation when the decapitated body of a girl was found on the Paonta Sahib Highway on the Haryana-Himachal border. Investigation revealed that Uma of Saharanpur was murdered by her live-in partner Bilal to escape the pressure of marriage.
On the morning of 7th December, a dead body lying amidst the fields on the Paonta Sahib Highway passing through the Haryana-Himachal border was standing in front of the police as a question to which the answer was not easy. The head was missing, the body was naked and the brutality of the murder was shocking. It was not just a murder, but a conspiracy born out of relationships, deception and fear.
Girl’s torso found in fields, head missing
Yamuna Nagar Police found the body of a girl in the fields near Paonta Sahib Highway on December 7. The body was completely naked and the head was severed. Despite extensive searching around, the head was not found. In the initial investigation itself it became clear that the girl had been brutally murdered. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, SP Yamuna Nagar immediately constituted SIT.
The first and biggest challenge before the police was the identification of the deceased. SP and DSP level officers themselves got involved in the investigation. Border police stations of Himachal, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh were contacted, but the missing girl could not be confirmed anywhere. It seemed as if this dead body belonged to a girl whom no one was going to find.

CCTV and digital evidence changed the direction of investigation
When no clues were found through conventional methods, the police started scanning CCTV footage and digital evidence. From here the direction of investigation turned towards Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. After getting some important inputs, the police became suspicious of a young man, whose name was Furkan alias Bilal.
Bilal was arrested on the day of marriage
As the investigation progressed, it was revealed that the name of the deceased was Uma and she was a resident of Saharanpur. Meanwhile, the police took Furkan alias Bilal into custody on the day when his marriage was to take place. Bilal is also a resident of Tidoli village of Saharanpur. The story that came out during interrogation after the arrest surprised even the police.
Uma and Bilal were living in live-in for two years.
Bilal broke down under strict interrogation and confessed to his crime. He told that he and Uma were living in a live-in relationship for the last two years. Uma was pressurizing him for marriage, while Bilal’s marriage had been fixed somewhere else. She was afraid that Uma would tell this to her family.

Bilal told the police that at around 8 pm on December 6, he left Saharanpur with Uma in the car. As soon as he got a chance on the way, he cut off Uma’s head inside the car with a meat knife. After separating the head from the body, he threw the body in the fields away from the road.
Conspiracy to hide identity, but could not escape
Bilal felt that Uma was not in contact with her family for a long time, hence she would not be identified and her crime would not come to light. But technical investigation and strict interrogation of the police exposed his entire conspiracy.
Severed head recovered at the behest of the accused
On the behest of Bilal, the police have also recovered the severed head of Uma. With this, this sensational murder case was completely revealed. At present the accused is in police custody and further legal action is being taken in the case.
