New Delhi: The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) came with some changes to transaction limits in making UPI payments by following apps like Gpay, Phone pay and Paytm, these changes are going to be implemented from Monday, 15th September 2025. According to the reports these changes are expected to benefit not just for regular users but also for the merchants and business by allowing them to make much larger payments from UPI.
The NPCI has come up with several changes in transition limits specially for the high value sectors like insurance, investment, travel, and credit card bills. This new update will make the user experience better than before and enhance the payment process by making the larger transaction more smoothly than before.
Changes in Commercial UPI Transaction limit.
As per the new guidelines from the NPCI for UPI payment is for only selected categories like insurance, investment, travel, and credit card bills payments. The transection limit will increase to Rs. 5 lakh per transaction. Moreover the users are allowed to make transactions up to Rs. 10 lakh within 24 hours in the given category. Also for 12 other categories the daily transaction limit is being increased
For the Investments, Insurance, Government e-Market Place (GeM), and Travel, the NPCI has set a transaction limit of Rs. 5 lakh along Rs. 10 lakh of daily transaction limit. For the credit card payment and Jewellery the per payment is unchanged at Rs. 2 lakh while the daily transaction limit is set at Rs. 6 lakh a day. Same as for the Business merchant the per payment transaction remains unchanged at Rs. 5 lakh but the daily limit is not specified yet. Finally for the Digital account the term deposit is set at Rs. 5 lakh each and for Initial funding the transaction limit is set at Rs. 2 lakh each.
Change in General UPI Transaction limit
The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has clarified that the increased limit will only be implemented on high value sectors like insurance, investment, travel, and credit card bills. However for the regular person to person (P2P) UPI transaction, there is no change in transaction limit, it is unchanged at Rs. 1 lakh.
