IRCTC has started testing a new catering model in select trains to improve the quality of food served in Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains. Under this model, the responsibility of cooking and serving food is being given.
IRCTC New Catering Model: Indian Railways has taken a big step towards providing better and good quality food to the passengers. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) is launching Proof of Concept (PoC) of a new on-board catering model in select Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains. The objective of this new model is to significantly improve the quality, cleanliness and passenger satisfaction of food served in trains.
Branded food and beverage companies are included
Under this initiative of IRCTC, production and service of food is being separated. This includes well-known and branded food and beverage companies, including industrial kitchens, renowned restaurant chains and flight catering companies. These companies are responsible for providing fresh, clean and restaurant quality food to the passengers.
According to an official release, this PoC is being implemented in some recently introduced Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains of different railway zones. IRCTC, which is a Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, caters to about 16.50 lakh passengers daily on Indian Railways. IRCTC continuously takes new initiatives and improvement steps to improve the facilities of passengers.
What does the release say?
The release said that in these trials, attention is being paid to the kitchen infrastructure, food production process, transfer of food and services provided in the entire supply chain. The aim of these trials is to ensure that passengers get good quality and safe food during their journey.

In which trains the facility is provided
The trains included in the PoC include Nagpur-Secunderabad Vande Bharat Express, where catering work is being handled by Haldiram (Nagpur) and Elior (Secunderabad). M/s Touch Stone Foundation is providing food service in Delhi-Sitamarhi Amrit Bharat train. Casino Air Caterers and Flight Services (CAFS) has been entrusted with the responsibility of Kasaragod-Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru-Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat Express trains. According to IRCTC, these trials are offering passengers a diverse and restaurant-quality menu, including local cuisine. Initial feedback from passengers about the food service has been positive. The results from this Proof of Concept (PoC) will be analyzed to further improve and expand the catering service in the future.
