Who is Sushila Karki?

Sushila Karki has been the first woman Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal. He received this post on 11 July 2016. However, on 30 April 2017, the Maoist Center and Nepali Congress moved a motion of impeachment against him in Parliament. But the proposal was withdrawn following the protest of the public and the Supreme Court order. Karki belongs to the Karki family of Viratnagar and is the eldest of the seven children of her parents. He met Durga Prasad Subedi during his studies. Durga Subedi was the young and popular leader of the Nepali Congress at that time. He is also known for playing a role in agitation against Panchayat rule and an aircraft kidnapping incident.

Studied from Banaras Hindu University

Sushila Karki’s education and career journey has been very inspiring. He completed his graduation from Mahendra Morang College in Viratnagar in 1972. After this, in 1975 she went to India and earned political science MA degree from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Continuing studies, he completed his LLB studies from Tribhuvan University in Nepal in 1978.

Worked as Chief Justice of Nepal

After finishing his studies, he started his advocacy from Viratnagar in 1979. A few years later, in 1985, he got a chance to work as an assistant teacher at Mahendra Multiple Campus, Dharan. Sushila Karki got the status of senior advocate in 2007 after long struggle and hard work. The new chapter of his career began when he was appointed Ed-Hawk Justice in the Nepal Supreme Court on 22 January 2009. After this, he was made a permanent Justice on 18 November 2010 in view of his ability. She was carried forward due to her honesty and strict decisions and she was the acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 13 April 2016 to 10 July 2016. After this, he served as the Chief Justice of Nepal from 11 July 2016 to 7 June 2017.
