The Israel-Hamas conflict has been on for a while now, and slowly it has started disrupting sporting activities as well. Now, the 2024 Tel Aviv Grand Slam judo tournament has been postponed due to the entire situation, as per the Israel Judo Association.
The tournament was slated to be held on February 15.
‘The decision to postpone the event was made to prioritize the safety and security of our entire judo family,’ the International Judo Federation (IJF) explained, reports Xinhua. The competition part of the international calendar, had been taking place as part of the IJF World Tour in Tel Aviv since 2021. Meanwhile, it was supposed to be the second tournament in the Grand Slam series, after the Paris tournament.
Earlier in the year, Tel Aviv Grand Slam judo tournament, 398 athletes from 52 countries and regions participated, with seven weight categories for each gender. France then topped the tally, with three gold, one silver, and one bronze medal, followed by Canada, Israel, Georgia, and Azerbaijan.

Back in November, the tennis Tel Aviv Open was also canceled due to the war. in 2022, the world no. 1 Novak Djokovic beat Marin Cilic in straight sets to claim the title. Interestingly, India’s Rohan Bopanna had won the men’s doubles title along with Matwe Middelkoop, beating Santiago Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. The ATP 250 event is primarily a singles event, and the doubles competition was not held between 2000 and 2021.
