Tata Motors, which has made a name for itself in the Indian market on the basis of powerful vehicles, is now preparing to accelerate its expansion at the global level. After strong performance in FY 2026 and demerger of passenger and commercial vehicle business, the company has started working on a new strategy. According to media reports, Tata Motors Chairman N Chandrasekaran gave this information during the company’s annual meeting.

Chandrasekaran said the company is strategically bringing its passenger vehicle business closer to British luxury car unit Jaguar Land Rover. Its objective is to achieve better results by increasing coordination in platform, technology and product development. Jaguar Land Rover is a subsidiary of Tata Motors. Chandrasekaran said that after the demerger on October 1, 2025, it has helped in taking more clear focus and faster decisions in both the businesses. This has improved the efficiency of the company.

Tata Motors records record sales

Financial year 2026 was very strong for Tata Motors. During this period, the company sold approximately 6,40,000 passenger vehicles, which is 15% increase on annual basis. On the basis of this performance, the company achieved second position in the domestic market in the second half of the financial year. Models like Nexon and Punch strengthened the company’s growth in the SUV segment. At the same time, despite increasing competition, the company’s total electric vehicle sales crossed the figure of 2,50,000 units.

Growth in commercial vehicle business also

Talking about commercial vehicle business, the company recorded sales of about 4,30,000 units in this segment, which shows a growth of 14%. This was better than the average growth of the industry. During this period, the company launched 17 new trucks and tippers, introduced Ace Pro mini truck and delivered more than 3,600 electric buses. These buses have so far run more than 500 million kilometers in public transport. The company’s income from international business increased by 71%.

Company’s global plan

Talking about the future strategy, Chandrasekaran said that Tata Motors is now also working on the proposed acquisition of Italian truck manufacturer Iveco. Once this deal is completed, the global presence of the company will be greatly strengthened. If this acquisition is successful, Tata Motors can be included in the top 4 commercial vehicle companies of the world. This will be a big step for the company, as currently its presence is mainly limited to domestic and emerging markets. As part of its future strategy, the company will now focus on zero-emission mobility, connected technology and software-defined vehicles.
