Padyatra in Patna on 1 September: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s voter rights journey will end with a padyatra in Patna on 1 September. Earlier a rally was planned, but the strategy was changed to increase public participation.
Bihar Election 2025: The ongoing Voter Adhikar Yatra under the leadership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will conclude with a padyatra in Patna. Earlier it was scheduled to end with a big rally, but the leaders of the Grand Alliance have decided to take out a padyatra in the capital Patna on 1 September.
Why change strategy?
Congress sources said that the leaders believe that the padyatra will see more enthusiasm and participation in the public. Many leaders of the All India alliance have already joined the yatra, so there is no special benefit to gather everyone again for the rally.
The rally was already announced
Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal had earlier said that on September 1, there will be a huge voter rights rally in Patna, through which the people of Bihar will give a tough message to “vote thieves”. But now a padyatra will be organized instead of this program. On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav riding a bike in Muzaffarpur filled the journey. The special thing is that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was also seen sitting behind her brother Rahul Gandhi on the bike. People stood up everywhere and welcomed the leaders.
Why is the journey being taken out?
The yatra is being taken out by the Congress and the allies of the Grand Alliance against the special intensive revision (SIR) of the Election Commission in Bihar. The opposition alleges that the Commission is manipulating the voter list and the rights of millions of voters are being taken away.
1,300 km distance in 16 days
The journey, which started from Sasaram on August 17, will run for 16 days and will cover a total distance of 1,300 km. It will conclude with a padyatra in Patna on 1 September. The visit is being seen as a big political message for the grand alliance before the assembly elections.
