Now photocopy of Aadhaar card will not work while taking OYO room, UIDAI is going to make a big change

Aadhar card

The Unique Identification Authority of India is going to make major changes to strengthen the Aadhaar card and to stop paper-based Aadhaar verification. Under this, now companies like OYO, hotel chains and event organizers will not be able to take photocopy of the customer’s Aadhaar card. Nor will she be able to store it in physical form. A senior official having knowledge of the matter said that the new rule will be published soon. The method of keeping photocopies is against the existing Aadhaar Act.

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) CEO Bhuvanesh Kumar told PTI that the authority has approved a new rule, under which registration of companies like hotels, event organizers, etc., which want Aadhaar-based verification will be mandatory. With this, they will get a new technology through which they will be able to verify a person by scanning the QR code or connecting to the new Aadhaar app.

Rules will be notified soon

Bhavnesh Kumar said that the new rule has been approved by the authority and it will be notified soon. That means the new rule will come into effect soon. This will make registration mandatory for companies seeking offline verification like hotels and event organisers. Its purpose is to stop paper-based Aadhaar verification.

The new verification process will also solve problems related to many tasks caused by the downtime of the intermediate server connecting to the central Aadhaar database. Entities seeking offline verification will get access to the API application programming interface through which they can update their systems for Aadhaar verification. UIDAI is beta-testing a new app that will enable app-to-app verification without connecting to a central Aadhaar database server for every verification. The new app can also be used at places like airports, shops, where there is a need to sell age-appropriate products.

When will the system be operational?

According to the report, offline verification will be better without paper due to ease of verification, and also the privacy of the users will be maintained or there will be no risk of their Aadhaar data being leaked for misuse. The new app is expected to improve the Aadhaar authentication service in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which will be fully operational in 18 months. The app will enable users to update their address proof documents on the new app and add other family members who do not have a mobile phone on the same app.
