Now metro will run without a driver! Delhi will become the world’s second largest driverless network city

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is now going to start driverless trains in its upcoming Phase-4 project. The purpose of this step is to make metro operations more fast, safe and accurate so that the possibility of human error can be reduced. A senior DMRC official told Indian Express that the upcoming Phase-4 will also be equipped with driverless trains.

Driverless trains are already running

The country’s first driverless metro was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 28 December 2020 on the Magenta Line (Janakpuri West Botanical Garden). Since then, Delhi Metro has gradually expanded the Unattended Train Operation (UTO) system. At present such services are running on Pink Line (Line-7) and Magenta Line (Line-8). According to DMRC official, currently 43 driverless trains are running on Pink Line and 26 on Magenta Line.

Delhi Metro is making its mark in the world

DMRC says that with the introduction of driverless technology, the availability and efficiency of train coaches has improved significantly. The work which was earlier done manually is now being done through automation. This has made maintenance easier and reduced the workload of operators.

According to DMRC, when Phase-4 is completely ready and driverless trains will start running on Aerocity Tughlakabad Golden Line as well as extensions of Pink and Magenta Line, then Delhi Metro will become the second largest driverless metro network in the world with approximately 160 kilometers of fully automated routes.

Glimpse of Phase-4 Project

Phase-4 includes a total of three priority corridors, including Majlis Park to Maujpur (Pink Line), Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg (Magenta Line), Delhi Aerocity to Tughlakabad (Golden Line), Inderlok to Indraprastha (Green Line), Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block (Golden Line) and driverless metro train between Rithala to Kundli (Red Line). Will do.
